Commack F.D. MVA w/ Overturn and Entrapment Jericho Tpke. 4/22/23
The Commack Fire Department, Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and Suffolk County Police responded to an MVA with reported overturn and entrapment on Jericho Turnpike about 03:10 on April 22, 2023. The driver of a Ford Excursion merging from Veterans Memorial Highway to Jericho Turnpike, lost control of the vehicle and overturned landing in a Bolla Market Car Wash lot on it's roof. There were three people in the vehicle at the time, two females and a male who was driving. The females were able to self extricate, the driver however was trapped. First Assistant Chief Purrazzella arrived and confirmed the entrapment and advised the driver was heavily pinned. Heavy Rescue 2-11-9, Engines 2-11-13, 2-11-4 and Mini Rescue 2-11-8 responded. Suffolk County Police Emergency Services ES-1 and ES-2 also responded. Those crews used mutliple tools and airbags to lift the vehicle and extricate the driver in about 30 minutes. The crew from 2-11-13 had a precautionary line stretched during the extrication. The driver was transported to South Shore University Hospital by Ambulance 2-16-15, the two females were not injured.
