East Norwich Fire Co. Signal 10 Walnut Ave. 5/15/23
The East Norwich Fire Company was alerted for an automatic alarm at the Harmony Heights School on Walnut Avenue about 01:30 on May 15, 2023. First Assistant Chief Cronin arrived first and smoke coming from the first floor of the two story building and transmitted a working fire. Chief of Department Placella arrived shortly after and took command of the scene. Engine 518 was first due and had a hydrant in front of the building, that crew stretched the initial line to the building. Oyster Bay Ladder 554 set up in front of the building and that crew began searches and venting the building. As other units arrived a second line was put into operation to knock down the fire and contain it to the first floor. All searches were negative and there were no reported injuries. Additional mutual aid to the scene was provided by the Glenwood Fire Company for a Ladder, the Locust Valley and Syosset Fire Departments for Engines and the Jericho Fire Department for a FAST Truck. The fire was brought under control in about an hour and the cause is under investigation.
