Hauppauge F.D. Signal 13 Blydenburgh Rd. 6/12/23
The Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted for a building fire at Island Waste Services on Blydenburgh Road about 02:10 on June 12, 2023. Fire Marshal Gottleib 3-8-40 was the first to arrive and transmitted a working fire. First Assistant Chief Crean arrived and took command of the scene. With fire throughout the building, a master stream operation was put in place. Three Hauppauge Engines secured hydrants to supply multiple tower ladders and one blitzfire monitor. Hauppauge Ladder 3-8-7 set up in the street on the exposure 1 side, Smithtown Ladder 4-2-7 set up on the exposure 1-2 corner and Central Islip Ladder 3-7-5 set up on and covered the 2-3 exposure. East Brentwood Ladder 3-3-3 was the RIT. The heavy fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes, units remained on scene into the morning due to extensive overhaul. Ambulances from Central Islip-Hauppauge Ambulance Corps, Exchange Ambulance of the Islips and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded to the scene. The Nesconset Fire Department stood by for Hauppauge. Islip Town Haz-Mat, Islip Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad were requested to the scene. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
