North Amityville Fire Co. Signal 13 Broadway 4/7/23
The North Amityville Fire Company and Amityville Fire Department for a dual response Engine were alerted for a trailer fire in Gildersleeve Park on Broadway (Route 110) about 06:45 on April 7, 2023. Engine 1-7-10 was on scene quickly as the location is across from North Amityville Headquarters. Lt. Riordan transmitted a working fire and had one trailer fully involved that was extending to a second. Second and Third Assistant Chiefs Rhoden and Benloss arrived with Chief Rhoden taking command. The crew from 1-7-10 stretched two lines but only put one into operation on tank water as there are no hydrants in the park and the nearest ones are nearly 1000 feet away outside the park. Amityville Engine 1-1-2 picked up a hydrant on County Line Road at the rear of the park so other apparatus wouldn't be blocked out by laying in from Route 110 and brought a supply line to 1-7-10. Once on a positive water supply the second line was put into operation. The fire was brought under control within an hour with no reported injuries and all searches being negative. The occupants home at the time exited the trailer prior to the fire departments arrival. Mutual aid to the scene was provided by the Copiague Fire Department for RIT, the East Farmingdale Fire Company for an Engine, the Farmingdale Fire Department for a Working Truck and Ambulance. The Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst Fire Departments stood by at North Amityville Headquarters with a Ladder and Engine. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
