West Babylon F.D. Signal 14 T/R/O K- Mart Montauk Hwy. 8/8/23

The West Babylon Fire Department was alerted for smoke in the area of the vacant K-Mart store on Montauk Highway about 15:40 on August 8, 2023. Engines 1-9-6, 1-9-8 Ladder 1-9-4, Ambulance 1-9-9 and First Responder 1-9-80 responded. Suffolk County Police arrived prior to the Fire Department and found an involved auto to the rear of the building. Engine 1-9-8 arrived first and put one line into operation to extinguish the fire in a few minutes. Engine 1-9-6 also put a line into operation to hit any remaining hot spots. The crew from 1-9-4 accessed the vehicle for overhaul. Second Assistant Chief Allen arrived during the call and took command. The fire is under investigation by the Town of Babylon Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.
