Westbury F.D. Working Fire Rockland St. 3/13/23
The Westbury Fire Department received an automatic alarm at the Westbury Middle School on Rockland Street about 02:50 on March 13, 2023. First Assistant Chief Stewart arrived and upon further investigation had an odor of smoke and upgraded the alarm to a structure fire then transmitted a working fire after locating fire in a basement storage room. Engine 9610 was first due and had a hydrant on the school property, that crew stretched one line into the basement. Ladder 962 set up in front of the building, that crew worked with the crew of Engine 966 and started venting and searches. The fire was contained to the storage room and was under control within 90 minutes. All searches were negative and there were no reported injuries. Mutual aid to the scene was provided by the Carle Place and Jericho Fire Departments for Engines, the Hicksville and Mineola Fire Departments for additional Trucks and the Bethpage Fire Department for a FAST Truck. Chief Stewart was in charge of the scene and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
