Westbury F.D. Working Fire Wellington Rd. 4/19/23
The Westbury Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a house fire on Wellington Road about 01:25 on April 19, 2023. First Assistant Chief Stewart arrived first and had smoke showing from a two story split level home and transmitted a working fire. Chief of Department Carr and Second Assistant Chief Webber arrived shortly after. Upon further investigation Chief Stewart reported there was heavy fire in the rear of the home, basement and first floor. The fire also involved a deck and several propane cylinders. Chief Carr requested Hicksville Haz-Mat and Nassau County Fire Marshal Haz-Mat to respond to handle the cylinders. Engine 969 was first due and had a hydrant across from the house, that crew stretched the initial line to the rear of the house. Hicksville Ladder 931 was the first due Ladder and set up in front of the house. As other Engines arrived, two additional lines were stretched and operated. All searches were negative and there were no reported injuries. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Additional mutual aid to the scene was provided by the East Meadow Fire Department for a FAST Truck and the Carle Place Fire Department for an Engine. The Jericho and Levittown Fire Departments stood by at Westbury Headquarters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
